Listening

Researchers interviewed hundreds of young people concerning the greatest blessings they had received from their parents. The number one blessing was listening. They felt blessed because their parents listened to them. Listening is an essential part of good parenting, but it is also an essential part of any relationship. Often, we really don’t communicate. We just take turns talking! Good communication requires listening. When the other person is talking, we listen, and not just think about the next thing we are going to say. In doing so, we will understand them better. In Matthew 15:10, Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Hear and understand.” Jesus knew it was important that they listen to Him (hear Him) and understand what He was saying. We need to do that with God as well and with each other. Let’s start practicing our listening skills…let’s understand each other…and our relationships will be better and will be a blessing.
