Holiness

Holiness is a quality in our life we strive to obtain. It is a characteristic of God that we desperately desire in our lives. In fact it just sounds good, “holy”. But what is it? Is it that closeness to God we experience when we truly have let God have control of our lives? Yes. Or what about those times in worship when our bodies actually quiver from words that were spoken or sung? Yes. Holiness is about God. In fact it is all about God and everything about God. It is the act of total submission to God and then Him meaningfully and honestly steering our lives. The Bible tells us that God is holy. In John 1 we read “The Word was made flesh . . .” then in Colossians we read let the Word dwell in you . . . “ SO if God is holy and He is dwelling in us, then we are holy! The next question that comes to mind is Am I really holy? Can others tell that I am holy, or is that even an attribute that is used to describe me? Personally I do not feel holy all the time or dare I say much of the time. I feel inadequate to do that which God asks. I know I seem self-centered and self-serving to some.
But holy? Not so much. Yet my prayer does not and will not change. Lord make me holy even as you are holy. Knock down the walls of pride, guilt, shame, greed and selfishness. Dwell in me so that others will see me and know Christ. I believe that this can be done only through you. Make me holy.
Amen
