Be Christ

The choir anthem this past Sunday was simply titled “Be Christ.” It made me think about what that meant. Here are a few thoughts. Regardless of how we are treated, Be Christ. Regardless of social rank, rich, middle or poor class, Be Christ. Regardless whether friend, acquaintance or thorn in our side, Be Christ. So what does it mean to Be Christ? I John says,

“God is love.”

Jesus said:

“Love your enemies. If you love me you will obey my commandments. Love God with all your heart, with all your soul with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”

He also said:

“love your enemies, love those who persecute you.”

See the underlying theme. To Be Christ we must love. The unifying foundation for all true believers in Christ, regardless of denomination or geographic location, is to love Christ and love others. Our world is divided enough. By focusing on that which is most important we can bring the truth of God’s love to our world. So as you go into the world loving Christ, teaching His message and baptizing, remember you are never alone He is with you – Always! The present is always the right time for Christians to Be Christ.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for fragrant offering, a sacrifice and us to God.
