Delight in the Lord

Delight in the Lord

What is it to “delight in the Lord”? Is it only to find happiness in what He does for us? Or is it more than this? Is it something that most of us are reluctant to do? As believers of Christ we say that we want our lives to mirror His. We say that we will follow and do what He wants us to do. I know I am guilty of this. I say these things but I do not follow through. To delight in the Lord is to spend time with God. Read His Word. Pray with Him and to Him. Be quiet and let Him speak. Give up things that are important to us, to spend time with God because we want to, not because we have to.

To live our life in such as way as God always “doing” for us is very one-sided. God delights in His people when we draw near to Him. Too many people in our world, well even our church, are unwilling to draw near to God for fear of reprisal from non-Christians. We put the wants of man before the wants of God and then we say we want to worship God with a full heart. We have things backward. God desires us to follow Him wholly and to trust His Word. We display that when we live out His Word. When we take action for the oppressed regardless of who is right. When we feed the hungry regardless of how many times they have been in this position. When we clothe the poor. That is our command and to do so puts us in foreign and uncomfortable situations. But in so doing we show God and shine the light of love in a place where darkness is
rampant. To delight in God is a moment-by-moment, conscious decision to live one hundred percent for God. Our time on earth is limited and as followers of Christ we strive to live for Him no matter the cost. Our time with God is glorious and forever.
