New Beginnings

New Beginnings

New beginnings. That’s what we think of when we start a New Year. God has blessed us with the
dividing of the moments of life and history into units of time. This allows us to break into smaller pieces the things that go in life. Thus a new year becomes a great opportunity for us to start over in some way. God is, has always been, and will always be the same, He never needs to start again for His plans and ways are perfect, not so with us. I am far from perfect and am in constant need of God’s love and grace. Now when that time comes, when I want to change, I often just say to myself “I’m going to ____.” with no thought to God and His plan. Granted some things that need changing are obvious but still we need to seek God in all things.

I know we have made those New Year’s Resolutions and are trying to fulfill them already, (some we may have already broken). Let me suggest to you, that the first step is seeking a right and good relationship with God. Read and study His Word. Pray always. Congregate and fellowship with your Christian family often. These are things you have heard all your life but they are the foundation of a life with God. They become real when you get to that point in your life when like the prodigal son we realize our life is pointless without the Father and we turn from where we are and go to Him. That is always a resolution worth making.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord,
