Freedom

As a citizen of the United States, I enjoy my freedom. As a veteran, I really appreciate what freedom costs us. My recent trip to Latvia reinforced my appreciation for freedom. The Latvian people have only enjoyed freedom for some 50 years of their existence. Most of the time they have lived under the oppression or rule of another nation. As Christians we enjoy freedom in Jesus. John 8:36 says,

“If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

As Christians we are free from the guilt of sin and legal demands of the Old Testament Law. That freedom was bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. Galatians 5:1 says,

“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”

Through Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin, we are free from that bondage! We will sin as long as we are in this flesh, but we have the forgiveness of Jesus to cover that sin. We are to repent and turn from sin, but we know that the grace of God covers our sins. We can live guilt free…we have hope…we can have peace. When it comes to freedom, we are twice blessed. We enjoy the freedoms that come from living in the U.S.A. and the freedoms that come from the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
