Perseverance

In 2 Timothy 4:7, Paul says

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Paul knew a thing or two about perseverance. In Mexico City, in 1968, a runner painfully limped into the Olympic Stadium. He was the last man to finish the marathon that day. The winner had been crowned…the victory ceremony was long over…the stadium was almost empty as the runner slowly circled the track to the finish line. When the runner was asked why he had continued to the finish line, even after his injury and knowing was in last place, he answered… “Because my country did not send me nine thousand miles to start this race. They sent me nine thousand miles to finish this race.” That’s what God has put us here to do! We are here to finish the race! Spiritually, we must be in for the long haul. Someone once said…“By perseverance the snail reached the ark!” In Galatians 6:9, Paul said,

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

When we want to give up, let’s choose to persevere. A victorious army general once said, “My men are not braver than the enemy troops, they were just braver five minutes longer.”
