Notes from Mark

Desiring excellence when it is rooted in the love and knowledge of God is a gift from God. Having a
passion to be your best is needed in our world. Working on that which pleases God and having respect
for quality are found in this desire for excellence. When we let our sinful desires lead, the passion for
excellence will be replaced with a passion for power which focuses on my wants and my needs. It can
be a subtle shift and we can be months or years down the road before we realize our desires are not
God’s. An immature faith will reach for power and control, even in little things. A growing and mature
faith will desire whatever it takes to glorify God. Strive for excellence always – and let God receive the
glory.

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits,
impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
