Productivity

I am enjoying Vacation Bible School this week. I am thankful for all those who serve to make VBS happen. It is a good work. It is an investment. It is productive. In Matthew 7, Jesus says

“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  So then, you will know them by their fruits.  Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

God wants us to be productive.  God wants us to be fruitful. Fruitless trees are condemned. To paraphrase John F. Kennedy:  “Ask not what God can do for you.  Ask what you can do for God!” Serving God is satisfying. We are to make an investment and God will pay the dividends. An old saying for those who sit idle and expect big things was… “I’m waiting for my ship to come in.”  Well, that is wishful thinking! We are not to just sit around and let God do it all. We have to send a ship out before we can expect to get one back!  Expecting something for nothing is futile. As Christians, we are to serve God…to bear fruit…to be productive.
