Notes From Mark

As we continue to look at God’s Word as a blueprint for our lives and thus our church, Paul gives instruction for one of the most troublesome aspects of living the Christian life, and that is, How to live the Christian Life while living in the world? Knowing that we are to be different the easy response is to live away from the world, to cloister ourselves off and not get involved. Even in the passage from Ephesians 4, that…

Mission

Recently, I have shared with the church that the Deacons and Ministers have been meeting, as a committee, to understand the culture around us and seek God’s leadership for vision and our mission. Two Sundays ago, at our quarterly business meeting, I shared with the church the committee’s recommendations. Discussion was held and suggestions made. These recommendations will need to prayed over and discussed. I plan to hold a “family meeting” for our church to further discuss these recommendations and…

It’s the Little Things…

[35] The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, [36] and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” [37] The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. (John 1:35-37 ESV > I’m always amazing at the small things that God uses to accomplish big things. Last week I watched as friends invited their friends to come to Falls Creek with them, just a simple invitation…

Notes From Mark

The church is truly an incredible gift from God. There may be times when we don’t see this because of our own actions or the actions of others, yet when we are attempting to live in such a way as to honor God and glorify His name amazing things happen. In my own life there have been times when I have been overwhelmed with the sense of love and kindness by the outpouring of love from my church, even though…

Judging Others

Over the years, I have tried to not judge others. It is hard to do. It takes work. I have a plank on my desktop at church that says “My Plank.” It reminds me to take the plank out of my eye before judging or removing the speck out of a brother or sister’s eye. The Bible tells us that judging others is wrong. Only God is qualified to judge. Have you ever noticed how the person with the most…

Notes From Mark

God’s love in us demands a response from us. Our response is 1 of 2 things, either we show this love to others or we hide it away not to be seen and known as a follower of Christ. That is who we as believers are. When we look at the Christian life from a distance is really is pretty cut and dried. It is when we begin to apply it to every corner, niche and crevice in our life…

Stable Change

“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬ In 17 years of Youth Ministry I have done Ministry in many different ways. Some worked well so others, not so much. Many methods and  ideologies have been built and abandoned in that time. One thing that has never changed though, the Foundation of Jesus and leading Youth to become Disciples of Christ. For the past 100 years Falls…

Friends

Pepper Rodgers, former head coach at UCLA, was having a terrible season. He was getting a lot of criticism, from the press, the alumni and even his wife. Pepper said, “My dog was my only friend. When I told my wife that a man needs at least two friends, she went out and bought me another dog!” Wow! Ouch! He may have been kidding, but we all need friends. Someone once said that a friend is one who walks in…
