Heaven

Heaven. Just saying the word conjures up so many different images and thoughts for each one of us. It is difficult for us to grasp what heaven will be like. I wonder if we talk about it enough. Too often I am afraid that the main time it is discussed is at a funeral or in sharing the salvation plan. Maybe in so doing we have diminished heaven’s glory on this earth. Heaven is more than a place to meet…

Sharing The Gospel

Last week, Emmanuel held revival services. Andy Harrison did a great job of discipleship with his messages from Titus. On the last night, he challenged us to share the Gospel and then he shared the Gospel with those in attendance. Decisions were made that night for Jesus Christ. In Gregory Koukl’s book, Tactics: A Game Plan For Discussing Your Christian Convictions, he suggests eight ideas to remove obstacles that get in the way of us sharing the Gospel. Greg suggests…

Titus

It has been good to study the words of Paul to Titus this week in our revival. Titus was a true friend of Paul, one that Paul had the joy of leading to Christ and then watch him grow in his faith to the point of being a trusted friend and communicator of the Gospel to all people. The words with which Paul instructed Titus ring true today. In chapter 2 v. 11-12 Paul writes “For the grace of God…

Wednesday Nights

Our church is blessed on Wednesday nights! Our after-school program attracts over 80 children and over 40 middle-school students. The children arrive to a snack and help with their homework. Thanks to the ladies who perform this ministry. Then, the children rotate through crafts, music, and recreation. Thanks to everyone who performs these ministries. Next, the children eat a free meal that is served to them by helpers. Thanks to those who serve and prepare those meals. Finally, the children…

Before God

What is it to come before the Lord? Do we come before Him with false humility? Do we purposefully think in our minds that we are to be submissive to God and let Him control our thought and desires? Do we come with thankfulness and joy? With repentant tears and a broken heart for the sinful way which we have acted or thought? When we come before God it is with intentionality and thought. It is not out of a…

God Satisfies

This Sunday, we start our revival. I want to encourage you to attend as many of the services as possible. Revival is a time to saturate ourselves with God. I have found that many of us, most of the time, are never satisfied. That is something we can work on! Philippians 4:19 says “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). We need to be reminded of that! A…

Sanctity Of Life

Yesterday we observed Sanctity Of Life day. A time when we take a moment to publicly say and affirm that all life is precious and of value. This is so true and those are words we need to hear over and over again. It is easy to get caught up in the issues of the day and miss what we think of as the obvious. Recently it was pointed out to me that one can be anti- abortion and not…

Our Father

We have all heard preaching on the story of the prodigal son. Revival preachers and evangelists love to preach the story. The story preaches at least three ways…from the prodigal son’s, the other brother’s, and the father’s points of view. The father’s point of view tells us a lot about God. The father in the story had open hands. He was wise enough to know that to keep his children, he had to let them go, to give them the…

God Is Patient

In the Old Testament, there are times it appears that God is not very patient. He exacts justice quickly. I am so glad that God is patient with me and with those around me. Exodus 34:6-7 says, “The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…” God is merciful to me…He extends grace to me…He is longsuffering with me…He is forgiving to me…He is good all…

Delight in the Lord

What is it to “delight in the Lord”? Is it only to find happiness in what He does for us? Or is it more than this? Is it something that most of us are reluctant to do? As believers of Christ we say that we want our lives to mirror His. We say that we will follow and do what He wants us to do. I know I am guilty of this. I say these things but I do not…
