After a hurricane, a TV news crew was filming the destruction, and in the middle of the devastation and debris, one house stood while all those around it were destroyed. The owner of the house left standing was cleaning up the yard when the reporter asked him, “Sir, why is your house the only one standing? The man replied, “Well, I followed the building code, and I was told that a house built according to code could withstand a Category 6 hurricane, and it did! Those around him did not follow the code. We live in a sinful world. The world will tell you it is okay to do something, even if it goes against God’s code. I have found that wrong is wrong even if others are doing it. People love to use excuses to sin…they love to say “Well, everybody else is doing it!” Psalm 1 says:
“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord.”
We are not to let others influence us to do evil. Proverbs 1:10 says:
“My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.”
We are not to be influence by the world, instead we are to influence the world to do good. Titus 2:7 says:
“In everything set them an example by doing what is good.”
God’s code, God’s law and commandments were given for a reason, to protect us. Even when it seems everybody around us sins, that doesn’t excuse us. As Exodus 23:2 says:
“You shall not follow a multitude in doing evil.”
Let’s live as God wants us to live.
