I love Emmanuel’s Senior Adults! They are faithful in attending church, they are involved, and they serve the Lord. Recently, I read an article about becoming a senior-adult church member by Thom Rainer of Lifeway. He listed five prayers for himself as he gets older and his attitude about his church. His prayers were:
- I pray I will not feel entitled because I am a key financial supporter in the church
- I pray I will not say ‘I’ve done my time’ in the church
- I pray I will not be more enthused about recreational trips than ministry and service
- I pray I will not be more concerned about my preferences than serving others
- I pray I will not have a critical spirit
I like these prayers. I don’t want to be a grumpy old man. I want to have a sweet spirit and disposition. I know that I will fight this fight…I think we all do. Let’s not become stumbling blocks or a hindrances to the health and growth of our church. Let’s ask God for wisdom and opportunities to serve Him all the days of our lives.
