Over the years, I have tried to not judge others. It is hard to do. It takes work. I have a plank on my desktop at church that says “My Plank.” It reminds me to take the plank out of my eye before judging or removing the speck out of a brother or sister’s eye. The Bible tells us that judging others is wrong. Only God is qualified to judge. Have you ever noticed how the person with the most problems is often the person who is the most critical of others. We love to look for something wrong instead of something right. An old preacher once had a effective method of dealing with critical Christians. He kept a “Complaint Book” on his desk. When a member came to tell him of another’s faults, he would say, “Ok, here’s my “Complaint Book.” I’ll write down what you say, and you can sign your name to it. Then I’ll take it up with our brother.” Invariably the critic would backtrack and protest. They couldn’t sign anything like that! They couldn’t put their name to it. The preacher said in forty years of ministry that he’s opened his “Complaint Book” thousands of times, but he’s never written a thing in it. Maybe we can learn from that.
