Notes from Mark

We find strength in that which is simple. It is not in the most complex and difficult that we find peace or rest. So many of us try to stay busy in order to accomplish or achieve a feeling of satisfaction. But we come away feeling weary. So we think we aren’t doing enough, not busy enough and we try harder. We chase after our possessions. We immerse ourselves in our passion and we build our pride. We try, really try so very hard and in the end we are not at rest, there is no peace.

Our world likes to boast about busyness. Being busy is a sign of importance so if we are busy we must be important. Being busy is not a sin, it has always been what we are busy about that brings problems. If we are constantly chasing things whether that is work or leasure and that keeps us busy then that is not pleasing to God. The pursuit of these dead things will never bring fulfillment. So what do we do? Pursue God. Spend time with Him. Read His Word, trust and then live it. Give God time and honor first. The idea is simple, putting it into practice is life-consuming. Being busy about the work of God is God’s call on our life.

For to the one who pleases him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.
