Notes from Mark

Love is a word and emotion that has different meanings for each person. As you walk by countless people each day you have different thoughts for each one if in fact you give them a thought at all. In our humanness we place values on people. Those who are dear to us we place a greater value than those whom we hear about to those who we will never meet. For us it is the person and the relationship that determines the depth of our love. Taken to another level our love then depends on the way it is received by the other person, if it is joyously welcomed then the love will be nurtured and grown. If it is rejected then that love will eventually die.

Think about our Heavenly Father and His love for us. It is just the opposite. His love is not determined by what He knows of us. We cannot dictate how God feels about us. God’s love for us comes from within Him. His love for each person is strong and enduring no matter the situation. He loves us not because of anything we do, words we say or heroic actions we take. It is because of His goodness, His kindness, His great faith. God’s Word tells us that God loved first, before there was anything there was God’s love. In fact 1 John 4: 8-10 says it far more eloquently:

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Let us show this love to our world.
