Satisfaction

The world around us can be depressing. We see people who are hurting…who are empty…who are lonely. They have broken dreams, broken lives, and no or little hope. Some of them don’t even try to solve their problems. They don’t try to work things out. They look at the short term and not the long haul. They want the quick fix. They are never satisfied. They feel the grass has got to be greener somewhere else. A farmer/philosopher once commented, “Every cow or horse I have owned has spent much of its time trying to eat grass on the other side of the fence. They are not satisfied with the grass or hay provided for them. I can even take bales of musty hay, that they normally won’t eat, and put them outside fence and they will stretch their necks through the fence and eagerly eat the musty hay. I believe they think, because it is ‘out of their reach’ that I don’t want them to have it. Therefore, it must be good.” Are we like that? Does something different always look better? Why are we so dissatisfied? Paul challenges us in Philippians 4:11, when he writes

“For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”

Like Paul, let’s learn to be content. Let’s be satisfied. Let’s walk with God from whom all blessings flow. God has promised to take care of us and our needs.
