Fear

We all deal with fear from time to time. Faith is said to be the opposite of fear. Isaiah 12:2 says

“God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.”

Letting faith replace our fear is easier said than done. But that is exactly what God wants us to do when we face fear. Faith allows us to see beyond our fear. In the 1980 Olympics, the hockey finals match was between a small, young, amateur U.S. team and a powerful, veteran Soviet team. During the match, people were on the edge of their seats. Team USA scored late in the game to take the lead. Could they hang on? Viewers were tense and nervous, and Team USA held on for the win. The match was labeled the “Miracle on Ice.” The underdog defeated the giant. Afterwards, people watched the replays, but it wasn’t the same as watching it live. They knew the outcome. It changed how they responded. That’s how faith works for us. It is an antidote for fear. When we place our faith and trust in God it brings us peace in times of fear. God knows the outcome…He promises to work things out for good. So, next time you have some fear, turn to God in faith.
