Adversity

What do you do when you reach the end of your rope?  What do you do when life gets rough?  What do you do when there’s no light at the end of the tunnel?  What do you do when you hit rock bottom? We’ve all been there and we’ll all be there again. Adversity is inevitable.  Someone once said, “Adversity doesn’t make a person weak or strong.  It merely reveals what he already is.”  I have found it’s not what happens to you, it’s how you react to it that matters. Like Ron Fannin told me once, the three things to do in adversity is

  1. Don’t overreact,
  2. Don’t overreact,
  3. Don’t overreact.

The same circumstance that can destroy one man makes a saint out of another. One thing we are not to do in adversity is give up, another is, we are not to just hang on! I often tell people, when they ask me how I am doing, “I’m hanging in there.” That is not really true. What we should do is to seek God and move forward with Him. Next time you reach the end of your rope, remember, God works at the end of ropes!
