How great is a good book? The book you just cant wait to get a free minute to pick back up to continue the story. What about a good movie? the movie that sucks you into its story so much that you just can’t wait to tell someone about. We share so much about the things in our lives, the things we love and the things we don’t. Psalm 107 tells of how great the love of God is and…
Learning From an Eel
I recently read about how eels travel from all over the world to the Caribbean Sea for spawning. Then, they and their babies return home. One eel was officially tracked from Canada to the Caribbean Sea. Who taught these eels where to go and how can they tell the directions? Well, God did! He guides the eels and He guides us. Psalm 48:14 says, “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to…
Lifelong Learners
A week doesn’t go by, that I don’t learn something from God or about God. He continually teaches me. In Psalm 25:4, King David prayed, “Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths.” We never reach the point where we can’t learn anymore. The more that I study God’s Word, the less it seems that I know. We must be lifetime learners. We must recognize our strengths and weaknesses. God’s teachings strengthen us and make us successful. They…
Notes From Mark
Thank you for a good day this past Sunday. It was good to have a fuller house and it was good to fellowship with each other. Thank you to the many who helped make the day a success! God’s Word is filled with passages that encourage us to build up one another. One of these is found in Hebrews 3:12-14. Reminding believers about those Israelites who lived in rebellion in the desert and they were not allowed to enter into…
Connect Sunday
Connect Sunday was great. We had fellowship at breakfast…we studied God’s Word in Sunday School…we had some fun with our contact and attendance challenges…we worshiped…we looked at why God wants us to attend church…and we had food, fun and fellowship in the parking lot. I hope you made it. God has a plan for each of us and for Emmanuel. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not…
Connect Sunday
This next Sunday is Emmanuel’s Connect Sunday. Please make every effort to be in Sunday School and Worship. We have a big day planned. We want to connect with each other and with God. In the crazy world we live in, we need God…and we need each other. Once Daniel Boone, a great pioneer-trapper, was asked, “Mr. Boone, have you ever been lost?” “Oh, of course not,” He replied with a smile. “However, I must admit that I was once…
Notes from Mark
Love is a word and emotion that has different meanings for each person. As you walk by countless people each day you have different thoughts for each one if in fact you give them a thought at all. In our humanness we place values on people. Those who are dear to us we place a greater value than those whom we hear about to those who we will never meet. For us it is the person and the relationship that…
We need to Pray, now more than ever…
No matter when I write these words they are always true. We need to pray, our church needs prayer, your family needs prayer, our country needs prayer, you name it and they need prayer. According to a 2014 Pew Research Center survey, more than half (55%) of Americans say they pray every day, while 21% say they pray weekly or monthly, Even among those who are religiously unaffiliated, 20% say they pray daily. As we CONNECT with people from our…
Notes From Mark
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:1-3 Theses words…
Complainers
Thank goodness I don’t get a lot of complainers in my office. However, when things are not going great, or not going as we would like, it is easy to be a critic. Thankfully, Jesus never said, “Blessed are the grumblers, gripers, whiners and complainers.” On one occasion, Martha was distracted with all her preparations, and she came up to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone?…
