Notes From Mark

The Singing Churchmen retreat was this week and I was blessed with the fellowship of my brothers from around the state as well as the music that we are singing. Any opportunity to lift praise to God through music is a blessing to me personally. Amidst the singing, eating (we are Baptists), and sharing was the testimony of Keron Jackson. This man has a great voice and a beautiful testimony. As a late teen early twenty something he was homeless and
living in his car. A man came up and encouraged him to go to college, provided a job and helped him get a scholarship. This man then invited him to church where he was welcomed with open arms and quickly adopted by 2-3 Sunday School classes. He was overwhelmed by their kindness and genuine concern for him. As he was talking with a lady from the church he asked “Why are you doing this for me? Why are you being so nice to me?” The lady quickly said, “Because we are Christians, that is what we do.” It was this attitude and lifestyle that brought this man to Christ. It is this reminder to each one of us that no matter the condition of someone’s life their religion, their race we love unconditionally because we are Christians, it is what we do!
